The families of police violence victims gave heartfelt testimonies of the pain and trauma living after loved ones have been lost during an Oct. 25 event in Oakland.

Hosted by the family of Oscar Grant and held at the Eastside Cultural Center, the event featured families from throughout the U.S. whose children, brothers, and sons were killed by law enforcement.
Families included Kendrick Johnson-Georgia, the family of Joseph Andrews-Tampa Florida, the family of Emmett Till-Chicago, the family of Marlon Brown-Deland Florida, the family of Jordan Davis-Jacksonville, Florida, and families from California – Alan Blueford, Kenneth Harding, Ernest Duenez, James Rivera, Dinyal New, Mario Romero, and others.
Former Cal student leader Salih Muhammad hosted the event. Muhammad is currently chair of the Afrikan Black Coalition, a statewide student collective in California.
The event began with libation by Greg Hodge, and also featured Elaine Brown, former chair of the Black Panther Party, and Vera and Wade Nobles.
The program featured cultural entertainment from the Prosperity Movement, led by Wolfhawk Jaguar, and One Be Lo from Michigan.
The event followed an earlier Helping Hearts 2 Heal event sponsored by the Alan Blueford Foundation.
