Our History

Oscar Grant is the precursor to: Black Lives Matter Movement

On August 13, 2010, Oscar Grant Uncle, Cephus Uncle Bobby X Johnson, founded the Oscar Grant Foundation (OGF). On November 5th, 2010, Johannes Mehserle was sentence to 11 months in jail. On our way home from LA court hearing, Derrick Jones was shot in the back by two Oakland police officers, that same day. Upon hearing of this shooting, I went to see the parents of Derrick Jones immediately after arriving back in Oakland from our sentencing court hearing. When I hug Derrick’s parents, they both burst into tears. That was so impactful that I could not do anything but cry with them. It was at this moment, when I realized what I was called to do for the rest of my life.  For the first 5 years, the OGF was operated and directed by Aunt Bee  and myself. It was our mission to embrace every family that was impacted by state sanctioned violence. On July 14th, 2014, we gifted Oscar Grant mother, Wanda Johnson, the OGF. It was on that same date that the Love Not Blood Campaign was birth to continue the work started in the OGF. We, myself and Aunt Bee, considers this work our life today.
